APPLICATIONS :
The tough, crack-free weld metal of consistent radiographic quality renders E7018 welding electrodes suitable for welding of carbon steels in fabrication of machinery & equipment of a wide range, especially for structures which are designed for severe service conditions involving heavy stresses and dynamic loads. It finds numerous applications with grain-refined constructional steels having tensile strength in the range 500 to 600 N/mm2.
Typical application includes :
- Boilers
- Off-shore drilling rigs & platforms
- Frigates & submarines
- Rotary kiln shells
- Bridges
- Rail wagons & coaches
- Pumps and Compressors
- Pressure Vessels
- Blast furnace shells
- Machinery for earth moving & road building
CHARACTERISTICS :
E7018 welding electrodes represent a unique combination of numerous features which every welder and welding engineer look for on shop floor and at erection site :
- Ease of operation in all positions.
- Smooth and stable arc which is easy to strike & restrike, combined with low spatter and with due control on molten pool.
- Slag detachability with little effort.
- Finely rippled bead with regular profile.
- Welds of consistent X-ray quality.
- Weld metal which possess excellent mechanical properties and displays resistance to cracking caused by heavy stresses and / or hydrogen.
- A higher level of metal recovery at 110-115%.
- Resistance to moisture pick-up.
- For best result redry electrode at 300oC for one hour before use.

NOTE ON USAGE :
- Ensure that electrodes are dry. It is a safe practice to redry electrodes for 1 to 2 hours at 250-300oc and then to keep them in a holding oven maintained at 80oC-100oC, prior to use.
- Keep the arc as short as possible & control weaving within 2 ½ times the core wire diameter.
- Clean the weld area of any surface contamination.
- It is good practice to preheat the joint faces to about 100oC at the commencement of the working shift, especially in the morning, to expel moisture & any traces of oil / grease.
